Marcus Allen (* 26. March 1960 in San Diego , California ) is a former American American football poker players in the position of running backs . He is currently a game analyst at CBS . As a professional football player, he ran a total of 12,243 yards , caught 587 passes for a total of 5,411 yards and scored 145 touchdowns . He was the first player to run over 10,000 yards and get more than 5,000 yards from pass catches.

Career

Allen began playing football at Abraham Lincoln High School in San Diego, initially in the quarterback and defensive back positions . At the University of Southern California (USC) he played from 1978 to 1981 as running back college football . For the first two seasons he was the substitute for Charles White . In 1981, Allen delivered one of the most spectacular seasons in NCAA history , running 2,342 yards, becoming the first NCAA player to go over 2,000 yards in one season. He won the Heisman Trophy , the Maxwell Award and the Walter Camp Award . In 1982 he was selected as the tenth player in the first round of the NFL Draft by the Los Angeles Raiders . In 1985 he was voted MVP for his good performance . After a knee injury that gave him a long break in the 1989 NFL season, he left the Raiders and played for the Kansas City Chiefs from then on . There he was voted NFL Comeback Player of the Year and stayed until 1997.
