Leon Hart (born November 2, 1928 in Turtle Creek , Pennsylvania , † September 24, 2002 in South Bend , Indiana ) was an American football player . He played as the end for the University of Notre Dame . Hart won the Heisman Trophy in 1949 . From 1950 to 1957 he played for the Detroit Lions in the National Football League (NFL). It was in 1973 in the Fame Pro Football Hall of added. Hart died at the age of 73.

In 1949 he was honored with the Associated Press' Athlete of the Year award .
