Errick Lynne "Ricky" Williams, Jr. (* 21st May 1977 in San Diego , California ) is a former American American football poker players in the position of running backs . He played in the National Football League (NFL) for eleven years and won the Heisman Trophy in college football .

Minor league baseball and college football

From 1995 to 1998 he played for the Philadelphia Phillies baseball farm team in minor league baseball . He played college football at the University of Texas at Austin , setting 20 NCAA records, winning the 1998 Heisman Trophy and Walter Camp Award .

NFL

The New Orleans Saints and especially their head coach Mike Ditka were so convinced of Ricky Williams that they gave their rights to their six players in the 1999 NFL Draft , and the rights to the first and third round in the 2000 NFL Draft the Washington Redskins gave up to select Williams as the only player in the draft in fifth place.

After three seasons he was switched to the Miami Dolphins in 2002 , where he played for two more years. On March 14, 2004, it was announced that he tested positive for marijuana in December 2003 . This earned him a penalty more than 650,000 US dollars and a lock for four games. Since he had repeatedly consumed marijuana in 2004, he withdrew from the game shortly before the start of the season in August and studied Ayurveda . The Dolphins then had one of the worst seasons in years.

He officially returned to the Dolphins on July 24, 2005, repaying part of his hand money. At a press conference , he apologized for abandoning the team shortly before the start of the season. After Williams was again convicted of drug use, he received a one-year ban for the 2006 season. In this he played instead with the Toronto Argonauts in the Canadian Football League (CFL).

For the 2007 season, Ricky Williams returned to the NFL and the Dolphins and played there for three years before moving to the Baltimore Ravens in 2011 . With the Ravens he managed, meanwhile only as a replacement running back, as the 26th player in the history of the NFL, to surpass the 10,000 yard mark.

Private

Willams is a vegetarian and supports the animal rights organization People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). He has been diagnosed with social phobia and uses this to justify his cannabis use; this would help significantly better than the drug paroxetine .
