Danny Carl Wuerffel (born May 27, 1974 in Pensacola , Florida ) is a retired American football player on the position of quarterback .

Wuerffel first played at the University of Florida with the Florida Gators. In 1996 he was the Heisman Trophy excellent and in the fourth round by the 1997 New Orleans Saints in the National Football League (NFL) drafted .

Up to and including 1999 Wuerffel played for the Saints and moved to the Green Bay Packers in 2000 . In 2001 he played for the Chicago Bears and in 2002 for the Washington Redskins . After the 2002 season, he ended his career. In six years NFL Wuerffel was used in 25 games.

Wuerffel had more success in NFL Europe (NFLE), to which he was seconded in 2000 and played for Rhein Fire from Düsseldorf with the number 7. With his team he won the World Bowl and was awarded as Most Valuable Player (MVP).

Since 2005, the Dice Trophy named after him has been awarded to the college football player with the greatest voluntary commitment.
