Terry Wayne Baker (* 5. May 1941 in Pine River , Minnesota ) is a former American American football - Canadian football - and basketball player . On the Oregon State University , he starred with college football and college basketball . In the local team, the Oregon State Beavers , he was quarterback from 1960 to 1962 and won the Heisman Trophy in his senior year. He also played in the 1963 NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament as a member of the Oregon State Beavers team in the Final Four . He is (as of 2016) the only player who, in addition to participating in the Final Four, also won the Heisman Trophy. Baker was the first pick of the 1963 NFL Draft and played with the Los Angeles Rams in the National Football League for two years . He then moved to the Canadian Football League for one season in 1966 , where he was a member of the Edmonton Eskimos . He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1982.

Beginnings and school career

Terry Baker was born on May 5, 1941 in Pine River , Minnesota . He attended Jefferson High School in Portland , Oregon and played football , basketball and baseball on the school's team, the Democrats . He received three years in a row for basketball a standard in the USA award for excellent academic and athletic achievement, called Varsity Letter . With the Democrats basketball team , he came in his senior year to the city championship in the Portland Interscholastic League . In baseball he reached the national championship of the Oregon School Activities Association in 1959 with the same team .
On the Democrats football team , Baker was a quarterback and running back . During his time at Jefferson High School, the Democrats were undefeated - they stood 23-0 - and won two national championships for the
Oregon State Athletic Association . In his senior year, Baker ran 438 and threw 1,261 yards .

Career as a college football player

Baker served as point guard on the school's basketball team . He also played on the school's analog football team from 1960 to 1962 , where, throwing a total of 3476 yards, he scored 23 touchdowns (of which 1,503 yards and 15 touchdowns in the running game ). He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering in 1963 . The Heisman Trophy won Baker on 27 November 1962 as a response to his success last season. He was the first player from a school west of Texas to receive this award. He also won the Maxwell Award and the WJ Voit Memorial Trophy in 1962 , was included in the All-American selection and was declared Sports Illustrated Athlete of the Year 1962. He won other prizes, such as the the Helms Athletic Foundation and was several times Player of the Year (German: Player of the Year ). In 1963, he also played in the College All-Star Game , where a college team scored the last time a win against an NFL team. Baker also holds an unbreakable record for a 99 yard run in the game against the Villanova Wildcats .

Career as a professional player

Upon graduation, Baker was the first-round pick in the 1963 NFL Draft from the Los Angeles Rams . There he played for three seasons and then moved to the Canadian Football League for the Edmonton Eskimos . He received a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Southern California Law School .

Life after a professional career

Baker was inducted into the State of Oregon Sports Hall of Fame in 1980 , the College Football Hall of Fame in 1982, and the Oregon State University Athletics Hall of Fame in 1988. His jersey number 11 will not be re-cast.
Baker has retired from practicing law and lives in Portland, Oregon.
