Reginald Alfred "Reggie" Bush (* 2. March 1985 in San Diego , California ) is a former American American football poker players in the position of running backs . He played for the New Orleans Saints , Miami Dolphins , Detroit Lions , San Francisco 49ers and most recently for the Buffalo Bills in the National Football League (NFL). Bush played college football for the University of Southern California (USC) and won the 2005 Heisman Trophy . Bush returned his Heisman Trophy in 2010 after an NCAA investigation into illicit donations while he was in college.
Youth and college
Bush grew up in Spring Valley , an unincorporated area near San Diego. Already at Helix High School he drew attention to himself because of his speed as a running back. From 2003, Bush studied psychology at the University of Southern California (USC) and was employed in several positions on the football team due to his versatility. In 2005 he was awarded the Heisman Trophy , the award for the best player in college football . In the same season he was able to convince with an outstanding performance in the Rose Bowl , in which he scored 279 yards . He was then acted as the potential first player for the upcoming 2006 NFL Draft .
After a 2010 NCAA investigation into illegal donations during Bush's college years, Bush returned his Heisman Trophy.
NFL
New Orleans Saints
Bush was selected as the second player in the 2006 NFL Draft by the New Orleans Saints . Despite initially mixed performances, he improved over the course of the 2006 season and played a major role in the fact that the Saints, after being the second worst team in the league in the 2005 season , advanced to the NFC Championship Game .
In the 2007 season, Bush was unable to match the performance of the previous season due to an injury to his left knee.
In a disappointing 2008 season , he was able to achieve nine touchdowns in ten games , including three through punt returns, before another injury to his left knee meant an early end of the season. After the 2009 season , he won Super Bowl XLIV with the New Orleans Saints against the Indianapolis Colts .
Miami Dolphins
On July 28, 2011, Bush was handed over to the Miami Dolphins for the Safety Jonathon Amaya and the exchange of draft rights in the 6th round . His first season for the Dolphins was satisfactory with over 1,000 yards in the running game , which he achieved for the first time in his NFL career.
Detroit Lions
On May 13, 2013, the Detroit Lions signed him. In his first season he scored 1,006 yards in the running game and 506 yards of space gained through trapped passes .
San Francisco 49ers
On March 18, 2015, Bush signed a one-year contract with the San Francisco 49ers . On the eighth day of the match he suffered a knee injury in the game against the St. Louis Rams , which required an operation and ended the 2015 season prematurely for him.
Buffalo Bills
On August 1, 2016, he signed a one-year contract with the Buffalo Bills . He ended the season with a new, for him very dubious, NFL record: −3 yards. This makes him the only player - with the exception of QBs - in NFL history to have lost space.
After the 2016 season , Bush was released into the Free Agency by the Bills , but was willing to find a new franchise. After failing to find a new team in 2017, however, he announced on December 15, 2017 that he would officially retire from the NFL. He also announced his desire to do so as a Saint.
