NFL

New Orleans Saints

In the 2007 NFL Draft he was selected by the New Orleans Saints in the fourth round as the 125th player, but his career as a professional got off to a sluggish start. In the first two seasons he only came to a total of three missions and was otherwise only called up in the special teams . It was not until 2009 that it was able to establish itself. He played in 15 games of the regular season , 14 times as a starter, and also in the play-offs and Super Bowl XLIV , which the Saints won against the Indianapolis Colts, he held the position of the left starting tackle.
In the following three seasons he played every game as a starter, in 2011 he completed a total of 1,177 snaps , more than any other player in the league. In addition, in 2011 and 2012 Bushrod played a major role in the fact that Drew Brees could throw well more than 5,000 yards and was called up to the Pro Bowl twice in a row .

Chicago Bears

In 2013, Bushrod moved to the Chicago Bears , with whom he signed a five-year contract worth $ 36 million . The first two seasons he was able to meet the high expectations, but when he was unable to play four games due to injury in 2013, he was then only called up as a substitute player.

Miami Dolphins

In 2016 he moved to the Miami Dolphins , for which he played 26 games as a right starting guard in two seasons .

Return to the Saints

In March 2018, Bushrod signed a one-year contract with the New Orleans Saints. For the Saints there was a need for action after Senio Kelemete's move to the Houston Texans and the resignation of Zach Strief made a reorganization of the defensive line necessary. At the end of August 2019, he announced his resignation.
