The Walter Camp Award (Walter Camp Player of the Year Award) is an honor given annually to the player of the year in American college football .

Eligible to vote

OJ Simpson

Every member of the Walter Camp Football Foundation (WCFF) is entitled to vote . The choice for the All-American team serves as a decision-making aid, which is made annually by the college football coaches from the college football teams that are located in the NCAA 1A division , as well as the sports directors of these teams. The election for the All-American team is also organized by the WCFF, which sends and evaluates the relevant voting cards.

The Walter Camp Football Foundation has set itself the task, among other things, of preserving the memory of the former football coach and supporter of American football, Walter Camp . In the early years of this sport, Camp played a decisive role in its development and rule creation. He had assembled the first national All-American team in 1889.

The WCFF awards other prizes, such as the Walter Camp Coach of the Year Award , to the best college football coach of the year. Any football fan can join the WCFF if they are interested. The cooperation is voluntary.

The Walter Camp Award has been given since 1967. In addition to the WCFF, other organizations annually award prizes for the best college football player of the year, such as the Heisman Trophy and the Maxwell Award , which can be won by all players regardless of their position, or prizes for players who hold certain positions such as the Doak Walker Award , which is intended for running backs , or the Dick Butkus Award , which is given to the best linebacker .
