Washington Redskins

2012

With the second pick in the 2012 NFL Draft , the Washington Redskins , who gave him three first round picks and one second round pick to the St. Louis Rams , selected Robert Griffin III. He had a brilliant rookie season, throwing passes for 3,200 yards, scoring 20 touchdowns on just five interceptions. Griffin was elected to the Pro Bowl and was instrumental in ensuring that the Redskins reached the play-offs for the first time since 2007 with ten wins this season and won their division for the first time since 1999.

However, he struggled with an injury problem towards the end of the season. On Matchday 14 against the Baltimore Ravens, he twisted his knee and then sat out a matchday before he led the Redskins to victory over the Philadelphia Eagles . Just before the play-off game against the Seattle Seahawks on January 6, 2013, came to public disputes, as USA Today reported that Griffin did not receive a game released after his injury by the team doctor what the statements of the former Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan disagreed . In the game against the Seahawks, Griffin injured himself again and underwent cruciate ligament surgery.

2013

In the off-season there was long speculation about whether Griffin would be fit after his cruciate ligament operation by the start of the season. Finally, he started without having played a single preparation game on the first day of the game in the loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. As a result, he failed to confirm his strong previous year's performance. On the 7th day of the game, he got two touchdown passes in a 45-41 win over the Chicago Bears at 298 yards. In the 27-6 loss to the San Francisco 49ers on Matchday 12, he scored for the first time in his college and professional career no touchdown. On December 9, head coach Mike Shanahan announced that substitute quarterback Kirk Cousins would play in the remaining three games so Griffin could not injure himself again.

2014

Under the new head coach Jay Gruden , Griffin was again a regular player until he sustained an ankle injury on matchday two. Upon his return, the Redskins lost three games in a row and he was eventually replaced by Colt McCoy . But he was also injured in the end, with which Griffin came back and the season ended with improving performances. The Redskins ended the season with four wins and twelve defeats in last place in their division.

2015

In the preseason Griffin suffered multiple concussions. A short time later, Kirk Cousins was appointed starting quarterback for the regular season . After rumors of change, the Redskins announced that they would start the season with Griffin as reserve quarterback. He was never used this season and was released by the Redskins on March 7, 2016.

Cleveland Browns

2016

On March 24, 2016, Griffin signed a two-year contract with the Cleveland Browns . Griffin was named starting quarterback by the Browns, but suffered a shoulder injury on matchday one against the Philadelphia Eagles , which meant he had to be replaced by Josh McCown . On the 14th day of the season he returned to the field and was able to achieve the first and only win of the season for the Cleveland Browns in the 2016 season against the San Diego Chargers on the 16th day .

After the 2016 season , he was released from the Browns.
