The Manning Award is an award given annually since 2004 by the Sugar Bowl Committee to the best college football - quarterback of the United States will be given. It is the only accolade given to quarterbacks that includes the postseason when assessing the performance of the nominated players .

The award is named after Archie Manning , former University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) quarterback , and his sons Peyton and Eli . Archie later played for the New Orleans Saints , Houston Oilers and Minnesota Vikings in the NFL . Peyton played college football at the University of Tennessee and then for the Indianapolis Colts and then for the Denver Broncos . His younger brother Eli was like his father a student at Ole Miss and was a quarterback for the New York Giants . Peyton and Eli were voted All Americans in their college careers and won the Super Bowl with their teams in the NFL , with both being each voted Super Bowl MVP . Archie was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame in 1989.
