Matthew Thomas "Matt" Ryan , nicknamed " Matty Ice" , (born May 17, 1985 , in Exton , Pennsylvania ) is an American American football player on the position of quarterback . He plays in the National Football League (NFL) for the Atlanta Falcons .
High school
Ryan attended the William Penn Charter School in Philadelphia and was there for three years starting the football team. He also played baseball and basketball and was the captain of all three teams in his senior year.
college
Ryan played college football at Boston College from 2004 to 2007 . In his first two years he was only used sporadically, but then showed good performance and was allowed to play as a starter in the bowl game. In his junior year 2006 he was appointed starting quarterback and started in eleven of twelve matches. He led the Eagles to a 9-3 record and a 25:24 bowl win over the Navy Midshipmen . Ryan also led the Eagles to a bowl victory in his senior year of college. By 24:21 that could Eagles the Spartans of Michigan State University beat. For his achievements he received the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award , was invited to the Senior Bowl and also won the Manning Award .
NFL
Ryan was by the Atlanta Falcons in the NFL Draft selected in 2008 in the first round as the third player. On May 20, he signed a six-year contract with a total volume of 72 million US dollars .
He was immediately chosen by the coaches as a starter and scored a touchdown with his first pass in the NFL . In October he was named Rookie of the Month ( rookie of the month selected) and at the end of the season even for Offensive Rookie of the Year ( Best Offense -Neuling of the year ).
He finished the season with 3,440 yards in passing and 17 touchdowns (one of them by his own run ) with only eleven interceptions .
On February 5, 2017 he was in the Super Bowl for the first time , which was lost with the Falcons at 28:34 against the New England Patriots .
Ryan signed on 3 May 2018 a five-year contract with the Atlanta Falcons with a total volume of 150 million US dollars . This makes him the highest earning NFL player in history.
In the 2018 season , Ryan was able to build on the statistics of his MVP season, he threw 35 touchdowns in seven interceptions. However, he did not manage to qualify for the playoffs with the Falcons. On December 30, 2018, he caught a pass from wide receiver Mohamed Sanu for a touchdown in the game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (final score 34:32) . It was his first ever pass catcher in the NFL.
