Katja Windt

Katja Windt (born June 4, 1969 in Bonn ) has been a member of the management team at SMS group GmbH , a system provider of systems, machines and services for the production and processing of steel, aluminum and non-ferrous metals , since April 1, 2018 In Dusseldorf. biography

Windt completed her degree in mechanical engineering with a focus on production technology at Leibniz University in Hanover . She spent a year as a visiting scholar at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the USA . In 2000 she received her doctorate in engineering. at the Institute for Factory Systems and Logistics (IFA) in Hanover and then moved to the University of Bremen . There she worked as a department head at the Institute for Production and Logistics (BIBA) and as a sub-project manager in the Collaborative Research Center (SFB) 637 , self-control of logistical processes .

In February 2008 she was appointed professor for the Global Production Logistics chair in the international course International Logistics Engineering and Management at the private Jacobs University Bremen in Bremen . Her teaching area included logistics as the holistic planning and control of logistical processes. In her research, she dealt with the development of planning and control methods for the production of industrial goods in global network structures, with a focus on the entire value chain from the procurement of raw materials through production to the delivery of the products to customers, especially in automobile production stands.

Since May 2011 she has been a member of the Supervisory Board of Deutsche Post AG and since May 11, 2012 a member of the Supervisory Board of Fraport AG .

In 2013, Windt moved up to the management of Jacobs University as Provost and Vice-President, in order to manage the university together with Heinz-Otto Peitgen . In 2014, she succeeded Peitgen as President of Jacobs University. In January 2018 she moved to SMS group GmbH.

Windt is married and has three children.

Awards

In 2004, Katja Windt and Jörg Müssig were the first engineers to be appointed to the Young Academy of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina . In 2006 she was the spokesperson for the Junge Akademie.

In July 2008 she was awarded the Alfried Krupp Prize for Young University Lecturers from the Alfried Krupp von Bohlen und Halbach Foundation in Essen . The prize, endowed with one million euros , which serves to promote their research and is distributed over five years, was presented to Windt in February 2009.

In November 2008, she was from the German Association of University Professors for high school teacher of the year named.

Windt is also a member of the German Academy of Science and Engineering (Acatech) . In March 2016 she was elected a member ( matriculation number 7684 ) of the Leopoldina .
