Mohamed Sanu (born August 22, 1989 in Sayreville , New Jersey ) is an American American football player on the position of wide receiver . He plays for the New England Patriots in the National Football League (NFL).

Early years

As a child, Sanu lived in Sierra Leone for a while . Back in America, he lived in Dayton , New Jersey , where he also went to high school. Here he already played American football . In addition to wide receiver , he was also used as a quarterback . He switched to Rutgers University . In his first season with their college football team, he caught 51 passes for 639 yards and three touchdowns . His final season in college made 115 passes for 1,206 yards and seven touchdowns.

NFL

Cincinnati Bengals

Sanu was selected in the third round of the 2012 NFL Draft as the 83rd player by the Cincinnati Bengals . On the third day of his first professional season, the Bengals met the Washington Redskins . Already at the first snap of his team, Sanu acted as a so-called "wildcat" quarterback (this is the name of a player who receives the snap instead of the actual quarterback). Sanu threw a 73-yard touchdown on AJ Green . So Sanu had thrown a touchdown before he even caught a pass in the NFL. He scored his first captured touchdown pass on matchday 10 against the New York Giants . In the 2013 season he was used in all Bengals games. A year later, his role on the team became more important as AJ Green and Marvin Jones sustained injuries. That season he finished two games with over 100 yards after receiving passes. He also managed another touchdown pass on his quarterback Andy Dalton against the Tennessee Titans on the third day of the game .

Atlanta Falcons

On March 10, 2016, Sanu signed a five-year contract with the Atlanta Falcons . In his first season for the Falcons, he caught 59 passes for 653 yards and scored four touchdowns. He played with the Falcons in Super Bowl LI on February 5, 2017 , which they lost at 28:34. There he scored two pass catches for 25 yards. In the following season he got 67 pass catches, which is his personal best (703 yards). In the twelfth week of the season, against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers , he threw a 51-yard touchdown pass to Julio Jones .

New England Patriots

On October 22, 2019, Sanu was transferred to the New England Patriots in exchange for a pick in the second round of the 2020 draft .
