Andrew Gregory Dalton (* 29. October 1987 in Katy , Texas ) is an American American football poker players at the position of quarterback . He plays for the Dallas Cowboys in the National Football League (NFL). Dalton played college football at Texas Christian University (TCU) and was then selected in the 2011 NFL Draft in the second round by the Cincinnati Bengals , for whom he played for nine years. He holds franchise records for yards and touchdowns thrown in one season and has been elected to the Pro Bowl three times .

Because of his red hair, he was nicknamed The Red Rifle .

High school and college

Dalton attended Katy High School in Katy, Texas . Only as a senior he was starting quarterback and led his team to the State Finals, where they lost to Southlake Carroll. During this season he threw for 2,877 yards, 42 touchdowns and 15 interceptions.

At Texas Christian University (TCU) he suspended the first year, but was listed as the third quarterback of the Horned Frogs . In 2007 he fought with Marcus Jackson for the starting place and finally prevailed. This season he has eight wins and five losses, but in the remainder of his college career he has won 34 of 37 games. At the TCU, he set records for career victories (42), pass attempts (1,317) and completed passes (812).

NFL

Cincinnati Bengals

The Cincinnati Bengals drafted Dalton as the 35th player in the 2011 NFL Draft , where he competed with Bruce Gradkowski for the starting place. After the preseason , Dalton was listed first on the depth chart by head coach Marvin Lewis and thus began the regular season as a regular player. During the season he received various rookie awards and led his team into the play-offs with a record of 9-7 . On January 7, 2012, the Bengals played in the Wildcard Round against the Houston Texans and their rookie quarterback TJ Yates . In this game, two rookie quarterbacks met in the play-offs for the first time in NFL history. Dalton caused three turnovers and the Bengals lost 10-31.

After the season he was elected to the Pro Bowl -Alternate and took part in the Pro Bowl due to the waiver of Tom Brady . There he threw for 99 yards and two touchdowns.

Also in the next year he led the Bengals with ten wins and six defeats in the play-offs, where the Bengals again met the Houston Texans. In a game dominated by the defensive ranks, in which neither Dalton nor Texans quarterback Matt Schaub threw a touchdown, Cincinnati lost again 13-19.

In 2013, Dalton set personal records and Bengals franchise records with 4,293 yards thrown and 33 touchdowns. In the play-offs against the San Diego Chargers , he threw his first postseason touchdown pass, but also caused three turnovers. The Bengals lost 10-27. Dalton was later heavily criticized for his repeated poor performance in the play-offs.

On August 4, 2014, he signed a new six-year contract that could bring him $ 115 million including bonus payments . Also in his fourth season in the NFL, he qualified with the Bengals for the play-offs. Due to the 10:26 defeat against the Indianapolis Colts , he was unsuccessful in the postseason this year. After the season he was elected to the Pro Bowl for the second time .

After the Bengals started the 2019 season with eight defeats , Dalton was replaced as starter by rookie Ryan Finley . By then, Dalton had thrown nine touchdowns on eight interceptions and had a quarterback rating of only 79.2. After three more losses with Finley, Dalton returned.

With the selection of Joe Burrow as the overall first in the 2020 NFL Draft , the Bengals got a new quarterback. As a result, they released Dalton on April 30, 2020.

Dallas Cowboys

On May 2, 2020, Dalton signed a one-season contract with the Dallas Cowboys .
