John Christopher Lujack (born  January 4, 1925 in Connellsville , Pennsylvania ) is a retired American football player .

He played in 1943 and, after a break during World War II due to service in the United States Navy , from 1946 to 1947 for the team of the University of Notre Dame in college football as a quarterback , and in 1947 he received the Heisman Trophy for best player. This made him the second player in the history of Notre Dame Fighting Irish after Angelo Bertelli to be awarded this award. He also won with the team three times, winning the national championship in 1947 in the choice of press agency Associated Press for Sportsman of the Year . In 1946 he was committed in the NFL Draft in the first round of the Chicago Bears , for which he was active for four seasons from 1948 to 1951. During this time he took part twice in the Pro Bowl , the all-star game of the National Football League .

After the end of his active career, he acted in the years 1952/1953 at his alma mater as a coach of the backcourt formation and trained during this time, among other things, Johnny Lattner , the Heisman winner of 1953. At the end of the 1950s he worked as a commentator for CBS in NFL broadcasts, in the 1960s he worked for ABC in college football coverage. In 1960, Johnny Lujack was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame .
