The Edmonton Eskimos are a Canadian Canadian football club from Edmonton in the Canadian province of Alberta , which plays in the Canadian Football League in the West Division . The club was founded in 1949 as Edmonton Eskimos. Under the name Esquimaux ( French Eskimos ) it existed since 1897. They play their home games in the Commonwealth Stadium , which has a capacity of 56,302 spectators.

The Edmonton Eskimos' greatest success was winning the Gray Cup five times in a row from 1978 to 1982. In total, they won the Gray Cup fourteen times and the Western Division Championship twenty-three times.
