Jared Thomas Goff (* 14. October 1994 in Novato , California ) is an American American football poker players at the position of quarterback . He plays for the Los Angeles Rams in the National Football League (NFL). He was selected first overall by the Rams in the 2016 NFL Draft .
college
Goff played college football for the California Golden Bears at the University of California, Berkeley in the Pacific-12 Conference . There he became the starting quarterback and played in every game of the Bears in which he was eligible. As a freshman , he threw passes for 3,509 yards with 19 touchdowns and 10 interceptions . He rose to 3,973 yards, 35 touchdowns and 7 interceptions in his sophomore year. In his senior year in college, he threw passes for 4,719 yards, 43 touchdowns, and 19 interceptions. By the end of his college career, Goff had set 26 team records.
NFL
In the 2016 NFL Draft , Goff was selected by the Los Angeles Rams as the first player . The Rams had previously signed a swap with the Tennessee Titans for the position . In addition to this first pick , the Rams also received draft rights in the fourth and sixth rounds (No. 113 and 177) of the 2016 draft. In return, the Titans received draft rights from the Rams in the first round, two in the second round and one in the third round (Nos. 15, 43, 45 and 76 - all 2016). In addition, the Rams gave them the rights in the first and third round of the 2017 draft. With the first three picks of the trade , the Titans chose the tackle Jack Conklin , the nose tackle Austin Johnson and the running back Derrick Henry .
On June 9, 2016, he signed a four-year contract with the Rams with a value of 27.9 million US dollars . In addition, he received a signature bonus of $ 18.6 million. After the Rams let Case Keenum accrue the first nine games as quarterback, Goff was their starting quarterback since the tenth game .
2017 was a much better season for Goff. Under the new head coach Sean McVay , he threw 28 touchdowns, seven interceptions and 3,804 yards. He was the first player in the history of the Rams who threw passes for more than 25 touchdowns and fewer than ten interceptions. He made 62.1% of his passes and got a quarterback rating of 100.5, the fifth best in the league. He was voted Most Improved Player of the Year by the Pro Football Writers of America and was appointed to the Pro Bowl for the first time .
Goff was able to exceed these values again in the 2018 season. His strong performances in the regular season led the Rams to a 13: 3 balance and thus into the play-offs. 32 touchdowns, 364 passes (64.9%) and a quarterback rating of 101.5 made the Rams one of the favorites at Super Bowl LIII . In the 38:31 win in week 4, in the Thursday Night Game against the Minnesota Vikings , he achieved career highs with 465 yards of space, 5 touchdowns, 26 of 33 passes and a perfect quarterback rating of 158.3. This achievement earned him an award for NFC Offensive Player of the Week . Also in week 11 in the 54:51 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs , the game with the third championship scoring game in all of NFL history, Goff scored over 400 yards (413).
In the play-offs, however, Jared Goff could not confirm the performances shown until then. Although they made it into Super Bowl LIII, not least because of the poor performance of their quarterback, the Rams lost 3:13 against the New England Patriots and their outstanding defensive that day. In the three play-off games of the season, he only got a rate of 55.7% passes and a quarterback rating of 71.7. In April 2019, the Rams withdrew the option for a fifth year of the contract. Before the start of the season, the Rams extended the contract with Goff until 2024. Goff should therefore receive a record sum of guaranteed 110 million US dollars for four years, which can increase to up to 134 million dollars through bonus payments.
