Malcolm Smith (* 5 July 1989 in Woodland Hills , California ) is an American American football poker players on the position of the linebackers . He plays for the Dallas Cowboys in the National Football League (NFL). Smith was drafted by the Seattle Seahawks in 2011 and won Super Bowl XLVIII with them , where he was named Super Bowl MVP . Then he was with the Oakland Raiders , the San Francisco 49ers and the Jacksonville Jaguars under contract.

college

Malcolm Smith attended the University of Southern California (USC) from 2007 to 2011 , where he played college football for the USC Trojans . After he served the first two years only as a backup linebacker, he managed in his third season breakthrough by a 67- yards - Interception -Return- touchdown in the derby against the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).

Professional career

In the 2011 NFL Draft , Smith was selected by the Seattle Seahawks in the seventh round as the 242nd player and later signed. There he played under his former college coach, Pete Carroll . In the 2013 season he was a regular player in the Seahawks' dominant defense . On January 19, 2014, he managed the decisive interception in the final seconds of the NFC Championship Game against the San Francisco 49ers when he caught a pass blocked by Richard Sherman in his own end zone . He made sure that the Seattle Seahawks reached the Super Bowl for the second time since 2006 . In the Super Bowl he shone with an interception return touchdown over 69 yards and a conquered fumble and was then elected Super Bowl MVP . He is only the third linebacker in the history of the Super Bowl to be voted MVP. The last linebacker to win this award was Ray Lewis in Super Bowl XXXV . In the following season, however, he did not get beyond the role of supplementary player with the Seahawks.

On March 10, 2015, it was announced that Smith was joining the Oakland Raiders.

On March 9, 2017, the San Francisco 49ers announced that Smith had signed a 5-year contract. After two years, the 49ers parted ways with Smith. In mid-October 2019, the Jacksonville Jaguars signed Smith. On November 5th he was released by the Jaguars. On December 17th, the Dallas Cowboys signed Smith.

Malcolm's brother Steve Smith was a wide receiver for the New York Giants , Philadelphia Eagles and St. Louis Rams and also attended the University of Southern California (USC).

Smith has achalasia , a rare disease affecting the muscles of the esophagus. For this reason, he could no longer hold his weight of 100 kg in 2009 and continuously lost weight because he vomited after eating. After the original diagnosis of heartburn was corrected, he underwent surgery. Since then, however, he has still been forced to eat very slowly.
