Jermaine Kearse (* 6. February 1990 in Lakewood , Washington ) is an American American football poker players on the position of wide receiver . He last played for the Detroit Lions in the National Football League (NFL). He previously played for the New York Jets and the Seattle Seahawks , with whom he won Super Bowl XLVIII .

Kearse's mother comes from Würzburg in Germany .

college

Kearse played college football for the University of Washington from 2008 to 2011 and was used as a wide receiver in each of the twelve season games during his freshman season. He played in three games from the start ( starter ).

In his second season he led his team with 50 pass catches at 866 yards of space. In 2010 he started in every single game of the season and was able to record 63 passes for 1005 yards and 12 touchdowns . In his senior year of college, he caught 47 balls for 699 yards and 7 touchdowns.

In college, Kearse was nicknamed ChopChop .

NFL

Seattle Seahawks

After Kearse was not selected in the 2012 NFL Draft , he received a contract with the Seattle Seahawks on April 28, 2012 . In the 2012 season he scored 31 yards in seven games with three pass catches. He also played in the special teams . After the debut season, Kearse underwent LASIK surgery to correct an ametropia .

In his second NFL season he played 15 games and was in the starting line-up in 5 games. He managed 346 yards and 4 touchdowns with 22 passes.

In the third season he also played in 15 games and started in 14 games. This time he managed only one touchdown, but had meanwhile become one of the most important stopping points for quarterback Russell Wilson . He came to 537 yards with 38 pass catches.

Kearse's particular strength is his ability to play on long passes. He especially appears in the play-offs , where he has already caught some decisive balls. In the NFC Championship Game of the 2013 season he caught a touchdown against the San Francisco 49ers . With the lead from this 35-yard touchdown, the Seattle Seahawks then moved into Super Bowl XLVIII . In the 2014 NFC Championship Game , he even caught the game-winning touchdown against the Green Bay Packers , because at this point the game was in overtime and was immediately ended with the 35-yard touchdown by Kearse in favor of the Seattle Seahawks. The touchdown was the only pass catch by Kearse, as four previous pass attempts by quarterback Russell Wilson on Kearse resulted in interceptions .

On March 11, 2016, he extended his contract with the Seattle Seahawks for another three years.

New York Jets

On September 1, 2017, the day before the roster cuts, the Seahawks swapped Kearse along with a draft pick for the New York Jets . In return, defensive lineman Sheldon Richardson moved to the Seahawks.

Detroit Lions

On June 6, 2019, the Detroit Lions signed Kearse. In the 3:31 defeat in the preseason game against the New England Patriots , he suffered a broken leg. On August 10th, the Lions put Kearse on the Injured Reserve List .
