Russell Okung ( oʊkʊŋ * 7. October 1987 ) is an American American football player at the position of offensive tackles . In 2010 he was drafted by the Seattle Seahawks in the first round and was active for them until 2015. He then was under contract with the Denver Broncos and the Los Angeles Chargers . He currently plays for the Carolina Panthers in the National Football League (NFL).
NFL
Draft
Okung was considered one of the best offensive tackles in the 2010 NFL Draft . Gil Brandt of NFL.com suggested that Okung "will be a starter and will play for many years," while colleague Bucky Brooks even declared Okung a contender for the overall pick . The Kansas City Chiefs and Washington Redskins were considered interested parties . Ultimately, Okung was selected as sixth overall by the Seattle Seahawks.
Seattle Seahawks
On 6 August 2010 Okung signed a six-year contract with the Seahawks more than 48 million US dollars . In the 2010 season he played ten games, in the remaining six games he was injured. In 2011 he played in the first twelve games before missing the rest of the season due to an injury. He played in every game the following season and was also selected for the Pro Bowl . In 2013 he played in eight regular season games and in all play-off games, including Super Bowl XLVIII , which he won with the Seahawks. In 2014 he played in 14 regular season games and moved to the Super Bowl again with the Seahawks , where they lost to the New England Patriots . At the end of the 2015 season, his contract with the Seahawks expired.
Denver Broncos
On March 17, 2016, he signed a five-year contract with the Denver Broncos for $ 53 million, the last four years of which was only as a team option. After the season ended, the Broncos did not pull that option, making him a free agent .
Los Angeles Chargers
On March 9, 2017, the Los Angeles Chargers signed him . He signed a four-year, $ 53 million contract. After a successful 2017 season , he was elected to the Pro Bowl for the second time .
Carolina Panthers
On March 4, 2020, the Chargers and the Carolina Panthers agreed to swap players from Okung to Guard Trai Turner .
