Ricardo Quantaye Lockette (* 21st May 1986 in Albany , Georgia ) is a former American American football player at the position of wide receiver . He played for the Seattle Seahawks in the National Football League (NFL) and won Super Bowl XLVIII with them .
NFL
Seattle Seahawks
Lockette was signed as a free agent by the Seattle Seahawks in 2011 . He was released on September 3rd and enlisted in the Practice Squad the following day . On December 14, 2011, Lockette was named to the main squad for the Seattle Seahawks. After the 2012 preseason , Lockette was dismissed from the main squad and taken back under contract for the Practice Squad, but was dismissed on September 18, 2012.
San Francisco 49ers
Lockette was hired on September 24, 2012 for the Practice Squad of the San Francisco 49ers. On August 22, 2013, he was released to make way for a new signing, quarterback Seneca Wallace .
Chicago Bears
On September 1, 2013, the Chicago Bears enlisted Lockette for their Practice Squad. He was released on October 21st.
Return to the Seahawks
Lockette returned to the Seahawks on October 22, 2013. There he was used in the special teams . Lockette won Super Bowl XLVIII with the Seahawks on February 2, 2014, where he caught a 19-yard pass. In Super Bowl XLIX , which the Seahawks lost to the New England Patriots , Lockette had 3 catches and gained 59 yards. Lockette was the purported pass recipient, which was intercepted by Malcolm Butler , causing the Seahawks to lose the game. The offensive coordinator of the Seahawks, Darrell Bevell, said after the game that Lockette "would do a better job can do." In 2015, the Seahawks extended Lockette's contract. On November 1, 2015, Lockette was tackled so hard by Jeff Heath in a game against the Dallas Cowboys that he briefly lost consciousness. The hit injured his neck area, which is why he was out for the rest of the season. On May 12, 2016, it was announced that Lockette was ending his career early because of this injury.
In September 2016 it was announced that the Seahawks, at the request of the players, were introducing a prize named after Lockette. The Ricardo “Rocket” Lockette Award is given every Monday to the Seahawks Special Teams player who most represents the values Lockette is believed to have represented: work ethic, preparation and resilience.
