Margene Adkins (* thirtieth April 1947 in Fort Worth , Texas , USA ) is a former American American Football- and Canadian-Football- players. He played as a wide receiver in the National Football League (NFL), including the Dallas Cowboys .
Player career
Margene Adkins played football in high school . After moving to Henderson County Junior College , he played there for Cardinals College Football . The professional player career began for Adkins in the CFL . He signed a contract with the Ottawa Rough Riders . He played for the Ottawa team as a wide receiver. In 1968 and 1969 he was able to win the Gray Cup with his team . His sporting achievements drew the attention of the NFL scouts to him. In 1970 , the Tom Landry coached Dallas Cowboys drew him in the second round to 47th place in the NFL Draft .
In his first game year 1970 Adkins could only play five games due to an injury. The Cowboys managed to win their first championship title in the NFC this year . After the team was able to win ten of 14 games in the regular season , the team from Dallas moved into the play-offs , where they could initially defeat the Detroit Lions 5-0. In the following NFC Championship Game against the San Francisco 49ers , the Cowboys prevailed with 17:10. In Super Bowl V , the Cowboys had to admit defeat to the Baltimore Colts 16:13.
In the following game year, 1971, Adkins had injuries. Nevertheless, he won the Super Bowl with his team . After eleven wins from 14 games, the team from Dallas moved into the play-offs again under the leadership of their two quarterbacks Craig Morton and Roger Staubach . After a 14: 3 win over the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship Game, they made it into Super Bowl VI . In this game there was a 24: 3 victory over the Miami Dolphins .
Margene Adkins moved to the New Orleans Saints after this season . With a gain of space of 1020 yards , Adkins was able to achieve an NFL annual best with 43 kick-off returns . In 1973 he moved to the New York Jets managed by Weeb Ewbank . He was released from the Jets in 1974 due to further injuries . He then joined the Chicago Winds , a team from the World Football League . However, the team from Chicago had to stop playing during the season due to financial problems.
After the career
Margene Adkins was after his career firefighter at Lockheed Martin . In 2008, he sustained an injury while fighting a fire that required hospital treatment.
Honors
Margene Adkins was voted All Star in the CFL in 1969 . He is also in his college's hall of fame .
