Player career

college

Harris grew up in Hot Springs , Arkansas and played American football at Quachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia . The college football team was second rate at the time. Although the NFL scouts became aware of him, he was not considered by any team in the 1970 NFL Draft .

NFL

Harris had caught the eye of those in charge of the Cowboys while studying filming. He was invited to a trial training session and was immediately able to convince. Although he still had to do his military service in his rookie year and he was therefore unable to play all the games, he pushed his future friend and business partner Charlie Waters from his regular place as Free Safety . Waters was later used as a cornerback . Under head coach Tom Landry , the cowboys developed into a top team. Harris formed together with other players such as Mel Renfro , Randy White or Waters a dreaded defense that went down in NFL history as the so-called "Doomsday Defense" ( doomsday defense ). Harris was known for his ruthless and hard-executed tackles .

Cliff Harris won the Super Bowl twice with the Cowboys . Super Bowl VI was won 24: 3 against the Miami Dolphins , Super Bowl XII went to the team from Dallas with 27:10 against the Denver Broncos . The Cowboys saw three more Super Bowls as losers. After the 1979 season, Harris surprisingly ended his career.
