Duane Charles "Bill" Parcells (born August 22, 1941 in Englewood , New Jersey ) is an American American football coach. As head coach in the National Football League (NFL), he won the Super Bowl twice with the New York Giants . He is the first NFL head coach to lead three different teams into the championship game. In addition to the New York Giants (in the NFC Championship Game ), he led the New England Patriots and the New York Jets in the AFC Championship Game .

Career

Parcells played as a linebacker for Wichita State University , which was then called the University of Wichita. Although he was selected by the Detroit Lions in the 7th round of the 1964 NFL Draft , he did not make a game in the NFL - the Lions fired him before the start of the regular season . Until 1978 he worked at several colleges and universities as an assistant trainer.

NFL

In 1979 he took a job as a defensive coordinator with the New York Giants , but left them again in 1980 to train the linebackers of the New England Patriots under Head Coach Ron Erhardt for a year. When he returned, he was again defensive coordinator. When Ray Perkins , the then head coach of the Giants, announced that he would be leaving the team, Parcells became that same in the team. Despite poor performance in the first season, he was able to win their first two Super Bowls with the Giants , Super Bowl XXI and Super Bowl XXV .

In 1990 he left the NFL and hosted a few radio and television shows, but in 1992 he got in touch with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and made a handshake to become their head coach. But at the last minute he changed his mind and took the same job with the Patriots. There he lost the Super Bowl XXXI against the Green Bay Packers . Due to some disputes with the owner of the team, especially during the draft, he left it for the New York Jets, who had to give up some draft rights to the Patriots in order to take over Parcells. With the Jets he reached the AFC Championship Game again and left the league again in 1998. Four years later he started again as head coach with the Cowboys and stayed that way until 2006. Then he ended his career as a trainer in the NFL for the third time. During his many coaching positions, he also trained many other coaches. One of these was Bill Belichick , who is now considered one of the NFL's best head coaches.

He was then Vice President of the Miami Dolphins from 2008 and moved to the Cleveland Browns as a consultant in 2014 .

Bill Parcells was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2013 .
