Brian Billick (* 28. February 1954 in Fairborn , Ohio ) is a former American American football poker players and coaches. Until the end of the 2007 season he was head coach of the Baltimore Ravens in the National Football League (NFL). He currently works as a sports analyst at FOX television .
youth
In his youth, Billick played basketball as well as football . In high school , he played both quarterback and safety . He still holds the Ohio state record with 21 interceptions . He began his college studies at the United States Air Force Academy as a linebacker , but then moved to Brigham Young University after a year and played tight end with the Brigham Young University Cougars . In the 1976 season he caught 20 passes for a gain of 338 yards .
Professional player
In the 1977 NFL Draft , Billick was selected in the 11th round in 295th place by the San Francisco 49ers . Before the season he was released and then joined the Dallas Cowboys , where he was never used. Billick never played in the NFL as a professional.
Trainer
After his playing career failed, Billick began as a coach at a young age. In 1978 he was initially at his old college assistant coach under LaVell Edwards , before working as an assistant coach at three other colleges. In 1992 he was finally hired by the Minnesota Vikings as offensive coordinator for coach Dennis Green . Under him, the Vikings developed into a very good attack team, the team regularly made it into the play-offs , the very big hit, but the win of the Super Bowl Billick should not succeed with the team. In 1998, in his last year with the Vikings, these 15 could win their 16 games in the regular season , but the team failed in the NFC Championship Game at the Atlanta Falcons . Nevertheless, Billicks quarterback Randall Cunningham had a very good season and scored 34 touchdowns , his quarterback rating was outstanding with 106. The wide receiver Randy Moss and Cris Carter were able to achieve both each over 1,000 yards this season.
With his performance as assistant coach at the Vikings, Billick was also in great demand as head coach and received this position in 1999 at the Baltimore Ravens. In the first year Billick was able to lead his team, which has regularly lost more games than they could win since it was founded, to a balanced season. In his second year the Ravens moved into the play-offs for the first time and won the AFC Championship Game against the Oakland Raiders , who were coached by Billick's competitor Jon Gruden , 16: 3. The move into the Super Bowl was the result. The Ravens won the Super Bowl XXXV with their quarterback Trent Dilfer against the New York Giants under coach Jim Fassel with quarterback Kerry Collins with 34: 7.
After the Ravens were never able to build on the successes from the 2000 season in the seasons thereafter, Billick was relieved of his duties at the end of the 2007 season, after a disappointing 5:11 record.
Off the field
Billick now works as a television analyst and presenter and is involved in broadcasting football games.
