Fairborn is a city in Greene County , Ohio , United States . Fairborn is a suburb of Dayton where Wright-Patterson Air Force Base is located. The Wright State University is located in the city of Fairborn, but has an address of the city Dayton. Fairborn had 32,050 inhabitants at the 2000 census .
The name "Fairborn" is a suitcase word from the names of the cities of Fairfield and Osborn .

The original dates of creation of the two parts of Fairborn are 1816 for Fairfield and 1851 for Osborn.
After the great Dayton flood in 1913 and the resulting slow siltation of the area, Osborne had to move closer and closer to Fairfield until the two cities united in 1950 after a vote in 1949.
Nearby is Wright-Patterson Air Force Base , where the Wright brothers made their first flight attempts on the historic site .
Demographics
According to the 2000 census, 32,052 people lived here; 13,615 households and 8,019 families were counted. The population density was 948 inhabitants per km². 14,419 residential units were recorded. The racial the population was composed of 87.28% White, 6.27% African American, 0.40% Native American, 3.32% Asian, 0.06% Pacific Islander, and 0.53% other ethnic groups; 2.14% said they came from several ethnic groups. 1.69% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 13,615 households, 26.7% had children or adolescents living with them. 42.8% were married couples living together, 12.4% were a single mother, and 41.1% were non-families. 31.0% consisted of single households and 8.3% had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.28 and the average family size was 2.86 people.
The population was distributed among 21.0% under 18 years of age, 18.4% from 18 to 24 years of age, 29.3% from 25 to 44 years of age, 19.7% from 45 to 64 years of age and 11.6% from 65 years of age or older. The mean age ( median ) was 31 years. For every 100 females there were 94.7 males and for every 100 females aged 18 and over there were 91.7 males.
