Fairport Harbor is a village in Lake County in the US state of Ohio . The place is at the confluence of the Grand River in Lake Erie . The population consisted of 3180 inhabitants in 2000.
Geography and cityscape
Due to its favorable location at the mouth of the Grand River in Lake Erie, the place has several ports in the area of the river, both in the river and in Lake Erie, some of which are still used commercially today. Since the land is flat, it was possible to lay out the streets of Fairport in the typical North American right-angled street grid in north-south and east-west directions. The subsoil of the area consists of the sand and gravel of the Grand River, which has formed a weak river delta here. The place is characterized by storage areas on the banks and some brownfield sites. Large areas of the shore line take up berths for boats and yachts. Fairport's most famous attractions are two historic lighthouses , the 1925 Fairport Harbor West Breakwater Light with foghorn and the older Grand River Light tower from 1871, which is now a museum.
