In 1961, Modell bought the Cleveland Browns for $ 4 million. After Modell fired coach Paul Brown in 1963 , the Browns won a championship for the first time since Modell bought them. After the 1995 season, Modell felt that his team could no longer achieve success in Cleveland. So he moved the team to Baltimore. The naming rights remained in Cleveland and thus his team was given the new name Baltimore Ravens.

Although Art Modell made a huge impact on the NFL, he is not a Pro Football Hall of Fame .
