Jerrel Wayne "Jerry" Jones (born October 13, 1942 in Los Angeles ) is the owner of the Dallas Cowboys , an American football team in the National Football League (NFL). Since Jones owned the Cowboys, they have won the Super Bowl three times .

career

Jones grew up in Little Rock , Arkansas and attended high school there , where he made his first experiences with American football as a running back . During his studies at the University of Arkansas , he played with the Arkansas Razorbacks as a guard . The college team was declared national college football champion with him in 1964 . After graduating, he began setting up an oil company in Oklahoma . The company is still in his possession today.

In 1989 Jones bought the Dallas Cowboys , which at the time were one of the worst teams in the National Football League (NFL). One of his first acts was the sacking of head coach Tom Landry , the legendary trainer of the Cowboys. For this dismissal he is still under criticism from the fans, especially since the long-time general manager of the Cowboys, Tex Schramm , announced his resignation after the dismissal of his companion Landry. Jones established his old student colleague Jimmy Johnson as the new coach. Together with him he developed a new concept to bring the team back to the top of the league. The Cowboys won the Super Bowl ( Super Bowl XXVII and Super Bowl XXVIII ) with Jimmy Johnson as head coach after the 1992 and 1993 seasons . Under his successor Barry Switzer , they won the Super Bowl XXX after the 1995 season .
