Christopher John "Chris" Doleman (* 16th October 1961 in Indianapolis , Indiana ; † 28. January 2020 in Atlanta , Georgia ) was an American American football poker players on the position of the defensive ends . He played 15 years for the Minnesota Vikings , Atlanta Falcons and San Francisco 49ers in the National Football League (NFL). Doleman has been elected to the Pro Bowl eight times and the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2012.

Youth and family

Chris Doleman was born on October 16, 1961 in Indianapolis , Indiana, one of five sons of Mary and John Doleman. He grew up in York , Pennsylvania , and played American football at William Penn High School until 1980 . After high school, he played a year at Valley Forge Military Academy before moving to the University of Pittsburgh .

college

For the Pitt Panthers of the University of Pittsburgh, he played from 1981 to 1984 as linebacker and defensive end college football . He ended his career with 25 sacks - the third most sacks in university history at the time of his transfer to the NFL.

NFL

In the 1985 NFL Draft , Chris Doleman was selected as the fourth player in the first round by the Minnesota Vikings . He was the second player from the University of Pittsburgh to be selected in this draft - the Atlanta Falcons selected guard Bill Fralic as the second player in the draft. He began his career in the NFL as an outside linebacker in the Vikings 3-4 defense . In 16 games - including 13 from the start - he scored 113 tackles in his rookie year , conquered three fumbles and caught an interception . After the change of the Vikings - in his second season - to a 4-3 defense , he played from the third to last game of the regular season from then on as a defensive end . In the 1989 season he scored 21 sacks, one less than the NFL record at the time. That team record for the Vikings wasn't broken until 2011 by Jared Allen .

Atlanta Falcons

Chris Doleman joined the Atlanta Falcons for two seasons in 1994 . In his senior year for the Falcons, he was elected to the Pro Bowl for the seventh time . He scored 62 tackles, 16 sacks, one interception, as well as two forced and two captured fumbles during his time with the Falcons.

San Francisco 49ers

For the 1996 season, Doleman moved to the San Francisco 49ers for three seasons . Doleman was elected to the Pro Bowl for the eighth time after the 1997 season . In his final season ( 1998 ) for the 49ers, he scored 15 sacks - the second highest in his career. After the 49ers lost 18:20 in the play-off game against the Atlanta Falcons, Doleman ended his NFL career. He scored 115 tackles, 38 sacks, two interceptions, and eleven forced and six captured fumbles for the 49ers.

Minnesota Vikings

Just eight months after retiring from the NFL, Doleman returned to the NFL with the Minnesota Vikings shortly after the start of the 1999 season and the end of the season . At 38 he scored eight sacks in 14 games and ended his career with 737 tackles, 96.5 sacks, five interceptions, and 31 forced and 16 conquered fumbles for the Vikings.

Chris Doleman has scored 914 tackles, 150.5 sacks, eight interceptions, 44 forced and 24 captured fumbles, and three touchdowns in his NFL career . For these achievements, he was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2012 - after failing three times as a semi -finalist and once in the final of the selection process . He played 232 NFL games, was elected eight times to the Pro Bowl , three times to the first team as an All-Pro and the NFL 1990s All-Decade team . With his 150.5 sacks he finished fourth in NFL history when he was elected to the Hall of Fame, behind Bruce Smith (200), Reggie White (198) and Kevin Greene (160).
