Lay Beltza is a Spanish thrash metal band from Azpeitia that was formed in 1998.

history

At first, members of the later band covered songs of their idols in the late 1980s and in 1998 released the demo Tartalo with their own songs. Lay Beltza was finally founded in 1998 and shortly afterwards released a first demo under the name Ziztu Bizian . Then the band consisted of the bassist and singer Xanti Rodríguez and the guitarists Ekaitz Garmendia and Joseba Azkue. Some drum tracks were recorded by Edorta Azkune Galparsoro, others by Antonio. The former was followed by appearances all over Spain. After the band had played local gigs for a year, they got a record deal with the IZ Rock label through another demo . Another reason for the conclusion of the contract was that the group had previously won the local band competition Gazte Lehio. The debut album Istorio Triste Bat was released in 2001 . Further appearances followed in order to promote the album. The band also recorded more demos, but for the first time in English. These were sent to various labels. Thereupon Jeff Waters became aware of the group, whereby they reached a contract with the label Crash Music Inc. , about which in 2003 the album Insanity appeared, which had been mixed by Waters. This followed appearances as a support act for Napalm Death and Exodus . In order to promote the album, a tour was also held, on which the band appeared at various festivals such as Festas Festimad and Lorca Rock and played there together with bands such as Iron Maiden , Slayer and Dream Theater . In 2005 the compilation Total Insanity was released in Spain , which includes the Insanity album, a live version of this album and the debut album. Disappointed with the label, Lassen Beltza went looking for a new one, which was found with the Belgian label Mausoleum Records . About this the third album Dimension of Pain was released . The sound carrier was recorded in the Lorentzo Records Studios in Berriz at the end of 2005. Guest singers on the album include Norman Skinner from Imagika , Johan Liiva from Arch Enemy and Hearse , Freddy Persson from Nostradameus , Martin Akesson from Impious , Jürgen Volk from Glenmore and Rawhead Rexx , Johan Lindstrand from The Crown , Pat Savelkoul from Callenish Circle and John Dones by Cardinal Sin to be heard as a guest musician. After the recordings, the drummer Edorta Azkune Galparsoro left the band and was replaced by Iban Hernández. The release was followed by a 25-gig tour before the summer of that year. The band played at the Thrash Attack in Madrid and the Thrashcelona in Barcelona and played as the opening act for Destruction in Durango . The second part of the tour followed after a break. Basket Beltza played at the Thrash Attack in Seville and as the opening act for the Swedish band Nightrage . In 2010 the album Need to Suffer was self-released and was re-released in 2011 via Punishment 18 Records . The sound carrier was mixed and mastered by Andy Classen in Stage One Studio .

style

According to the band biography on punishment18records.com , the lyrics on the first album are still in Basque before they were written in English. Laut.de describes her beltza as a power and thrash metal band. Later on, Death Metal influences were added. According to Sebastian Paulus from Metal Hammer , the band combined Slayer riffs on Need to Suffer with vocals reminiscent of Kreator and Megadeth melodies. According to Walter Scheurer from metal.de in his review of the album, the band is one of the most important representatives of the metal scene in the Basque Country . In their career the group has become more melodic. The group sometimes play aggressive Thrash Metal, which is comparable to that of Megadeth or the later Anthrax .
