Impious ( . English impious " impious ") is a Swedish Death Metal - / thrash metal - band , which is currently at Metal Blade Records under contract.

The group would like to set itself apart from the typical melodic death metal scene in Sweden through their playing style .

history

In April 1994 teenagers Vladimir "Valle" Adzic (guitar), Martin Åkesson (vocals, guitar) and Johan Lindstrandt (drums) founded the group Impious. Influenced by the Bay Area thrash scene of the 1980s and the original Swedish death metal scene, the three start making music. In 1995, Robin Sörqvist became a bass player. In the same year Impious records the first demo Infernal Predomination . Johan Lindstrandt has to leave the group shortly afterwards because he is called up for military service. The second demo, The Suffering , appeared with session drummer Marco Tervonen (ex- The Crown ) and under the production of Andy LaRocque ( King Diamond ). Ulf Johannsson then joined as a permanent drummer. With a promo cassette, the band received a contract with the Swedish independent label Black Sun Records and recorded the debut album Evilized , which was released on July 6, 1998 , together with producer Tomas Skogsberg .

After a break in which the band only took part in a few tribute albums and recorded another demo, the album Terror Succeeds was released in 2000 . The line-up has changed a bit. Since this album, Martin Åkesson has concentrated solely on the vocals, while Robin Sörqvist switched from bass to guitar. Erik Peterson started as bass player. Before the band goes into the studio for the follow-up The Killer , Ulf Johannsson leaves the group. For him Mikael Norén got on, who had to learn the drum rhythms that had already been written in the short time before the start of recording. In 2002 the album was released on the Hammerheart Records label .

In the same year, the group recorded the EP Deathsquad , which, in addition to the theme song from The Killers album, two demo recordings and a new recording, covered versions of Running Wild (Soldiers of Hell) , Metallica (Trapped Under Ice) and Mötley Crüe (Live Wire) contained. The EP did not appear until the start of the tour in 2003 with Necrophobic and Satariel .

In October 2004 the album Hellucinate was released on Metal Blade. The subsequent European tour takes place in the opening act of Amon Amarth . In the same year, the compilation Born to Suffer appeared on the Hammerheart successor Karmageddon Media . The album includes the early demos of Impious, as well as some cover versions.

In 2007 the next album, Holy Murder Masquerade, followed . Lord Belial's Thomas Backelin can be heard as a guest singer on the album. In 2009 Death Domination followed with Johan Lindstrand ( One Man Army and the Undead Quartet ) and Andreas Nilsson ( Hope Over Fear ) as guests.
