Callenish Circle was a Dutch thrash and melodic death metal band from Sittard-Geleen , which was founded in 1992 under the name Genocide and dissolved again in 2007.

history

The band was founded in autumn 1992 by singer Patrick Savelkoul and guitarist Jos Evers under the name Genocide. Since they were fans of bands like Death , Pestilence , Bolt Thrower and the older Paradise Lost , they initially started to cover songs from these bands. In the following years the line-up of the band changed several times, until in 1994 guitarist Ronny Tijssen and drummer Gavin Harte were established as permanent members.

In 1995 the first demo followed with Lovelorn , whereby the group was now called Callenish Circle. Through the demo, the band got the attention of Hammerheart Records , so the label signed the band. Shortly thereafter, the debut album Drift of Empathy was released , with John Gorissen as bassist. After a short time, the band separated from Hammerheart Records and released an EP called Escape in 1998 on Polar Bear Records . After the release, the band recorded the next album, Graceful ... Yet Forbidding, without any other financial support. After the recordings, guitarist Evers left the band and was replaced by Remy Dieteren. In the meantime, Roland Schuschke was also represented in the band as bass player. The group reached a contract with DSFA Records . However, since the label went bankrupt, the album could only be released in the Benelux countries. A little later the album was released across Europe on Edgerunner Records in combination with the already released EP. The band then signed a four-album deal with Metal Blade Records .

In 2002 the album Flesh Power Dominion was released in the USA and Europe. The album was recorded at Stage One Studio under the direction of Andy Classen . The release was followed by a tour with Vomitory and Amon Amarth . The band's new bass player was René Rokx, who had already taken part in a tour through the Netherlands with Primordial and Mercenary . In the following year the next album My Passion // Your Pain was released . Before the release in May, the band toured with groups like Testament , Darkane , Pro-Pain and Death Angel . This is followed by a tour of England together with Exodus , Nuclear Assault , Mortician and God Dethroned . Ralph Roelvink was the new bass player in the band.

After drummer Gavin Harte took a short break from the band, the band returned to the studio in the summer of 2005 to record the album [Pitch.Black.Effects] , with Maurice Brouwers ( Engine of Pain ) as session bassist was active because Roelvink had already left the band. Wim Vossen joined the band as a live bass player. The album was released in mid-November 2005. In January the band went on tour through Mexico with Paradise Lost . On March 10, 2007, the band held their last concert before breaking up.

style

The band plays a mixture of Thrash Metal and melodic Death Metal, with the band sounding comparable to Dew-Scented .
