Mortician is a deathgrind band from the United States .

Band history

Mortician was founded in 1989 by Will Rahmer ( bass , vocals ) and Matt Safe ( drums ) as a casket . In the same year they changed their name to Mortician , named after the first song they wrote. A demo was recorded - with John McEntee from Incantation , where Rahmer himself was a singer for a while, on guitar.

In 1991 Roger J. Beaujard joined as the new guitarist . They received an offer for a 7 " from Relapse Records , and the result was Mortal Massacre .

After that, Matt Safe had to leave the band because of massive drug abuse . He died some time later. It was replaced by a drum computer , which made up a lot of the typical Mortician sound until 2003.

After a few problematic years, House by the Cemetery finally appeared in the Relapse Underground Series in 1995 . The first album Hacked Up for Barbecue followed a little later .

In August 2003 Sam Inzerra, formerly Deadspeak, got on as a permanent drummer.

To this day, the Mortician publications are produced by Roger and Will in the combination of two. They only got intermittent help from Desmond Tolhurst, who was playing with Roger in Malignancy . Relapse Records was parted with after Darkest Day of Horror - Mortician outputs are now appearing on Roger's own label Primitive Recordings.

Singer and bass player Rahmer was picked up at a border crossing between Poland and Germany after he threatened a taxi driver with a knife and then stole the vehicle.

The incident occurred after the concert in Zielona Góra on November 13, 2005, which took place without Will, whereupon he ordered a taxi to be taken to Berlin Airport. As he drove, he pulled out a knife and threatened the taxi driver. The driver fled and Rahmer drove his car towards the border: There he was finally arrested by notified police officers. During a trial, the American faces between 3 and 15 years in prison.

In 2004, the current album Re-Animated Dead Flesh was released , this was confiscated nationwide in Germany on February 27, 2007 by the Nuremberg District Court due to the fact of the glorification of violence according to § 131 StGB (1) .

music

The typical Mortician sound is generally characterized by extremely deeply tuned guitars and an artificial sounding drum computer. The songs are simple, mostly just alternating blast beats with simple rhythms. The singing is an incomprehensible growling , simple texts about splatter and gore are performed . Mostly the processes of brutal mutilation , pathological murder and the end of the world due to a takeover of power by zombies or cannibals are depicted. It is also worth mentioning the excessive use of audio samples from horror film classics such as Texas Chain Saw Massacre , Night of the Living Dead , Hellraiser and Haute Tension , which pervades every release.
