Claude B. Humphrey (* 29. June 1944 in Memphis , Tennessee ) is a former American American football poker players on the position of the defensive ends . He played in the National Football League (NFL) for the Atlanta Falcons and the Philadelphia Eagles .

Early years

Humphrey went to high school in the city of his birth, Memphis. He later moved to Tennessee State University . In 1967 he was elected to the All-American team in the position of defensive end .

NFL

Humphrey was selected in the 1968 NFL Draft in the first round as the third player by the Atlanta Falcons . With the Falcons, Humphrey was elected six times to the Pro Bowl (1970-1974 and 1977). In 1975 Humphrey suspended the entire season due to a knee injury. In 1976 he scored 15 sacks in one season, which is his career record. In 1979 he moved to the Philadelphia Eagles , with whom he reached Super Bowl XV . However, this was lost to the Oakland Raiders with 27-10 . After the 1981 season, he ended his career. During his entire season he unofficially reached 122 quarterback sacks. Unofficially, because in Humphrey's time Sacks were not yet officially evaluated as statistics by the NFL, but only in 1982, one year after Humphrey's resignation.

After the career

In 2014, Humphrey was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame .
