Michael Strahan (born November 21, 1971 in Houston , Texas ) is an American television presenter and former American football player on the position of the defensive end . He played 15 years with the New York Giants in the National Football League (NFL) and won the Super Bowl ( XLII ) with them in his final season .

Career

American football

Michael Strahan grew up as the son of an American soldier in Mannheim . There he began playing American football as a teenager at an American high school in Benjamin Franklin Village in Mannheim-Käfertal .

New York Giants

After studying at Texas Southern University , he was selected in 1993 in the second round of the NFL Draft by the New York Giants . There he was one of the top performers as a defender. From 1997 to 1999, 2001 to 2003 and 2005 he was elected to the Pro Bowl seven times . In 2001, he scored 22.5 sacks , the most in the league. That year he was also voted Defensive Player of the Year . On February 3, 2008, Strahan won Super Bowl XLII with the New York Giants against the favored New England Patriots .

In June 2008, four months after winning the Super Bowl , the then 36-year-old ended his career. In February 2014, he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame .

After the end of his playing career, Strahan was first hired for the show Fox NFL Sunday , where he worked with other former football stars such as Terry Bradshaw and Howie Long .

On October 1, 2010 Strahan replaced the prevented Regis Philbin as the presenter of the show Live! with Regis and Kelly . When Philbin left the show a few months later, Strahan was one of several guest presenters at Kelly Ripa's side . Since September 4, 2012, he has been the permanent presenter of the show, which is now called Live! with Kelly and Michael wears.
