Kelly Maria Ripa (born October 2, 1970 in Stratford , New Jersey ) is an American actress and television presenter .

In 2012, The Hollywood Reporter named her to its annual list of the 35 Most Powerful People in Media .

life and career

Kelly Ripa was born to a bus driver and a housewife. Her younger sister Linda is a children's book author . Ripa has Irish and Italian ancestry. She has been dancing ballet since she was three . Kelly completed her school career at Eastern High School in Voorhees Township . There she was also a cheerleader . Also in her school days she appeared in the play The Ugly Duckling . She started studying psychology at Camden Country College , but decided to become an actress.

Kelly Ripa began her acting career with the role of Coral in the movie Marvin's Daughters (1996). In 2002 a four-part story arc followed in the series Ed - The Bowling Lawyer . Ripa had her first leading role in a television series from 2003 to 2006 in Hope and Faith at the side of Faith Ford . Through this role she also gained notoriety. After some speaking roles followed in 2005 an appearance in Missing - Desperate Wanted and 2009 in Damages - Im Netz der Macht and Brothers & Sisters . Furthermore, in 2010 her engagement in the soap opera All My Children , which she had taken since 1990, ended. In 2011 she starred in Hannah Montana and 30 Rock . Most recently, she appeared in the short film The Bensonhurst Spelling Bee in 2012 .

Since 1986, Ripa has appeared on various talk shows and soap operas, including The Daily Show , Love, Lies, Passion , The Rosie O'Donnell Show , The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and Saturday Night Live . Since 2001 she has hosted the program Live! with Kelly and Michael at the side of Michael Strahan , whom she moderated alone after Strahan left in April 2016. Since 2016 she has been co-commentator for Anderson Cooper of the "CNN Heroes All-Star Tribute" on CNN , which is broadcast annually in the second week of December.

In May 1996, Ripa married actor Mark Consuelos , whom she met on the set of All My Children . The couple has three children who were born in 1997, 2001 and 2003.
