Narrated by the inner monologues of the title character, Katie Otto, embodied by Katy Mixon as a typical housewife and mother from the American middle class, the sitcom is about the life of a normal family among their almost perfect, rich and pretentious neighbors in chic Westport, Connecticut. The working title of the series was The Second Fattest Housewife in Westport .
