Career highlights and awards

Domenik Hixon (born October 8, 1984 in Neunkirchen am Potzberg ) is a former American American football player on the position of wide receiver . He played for the Denver Broncos , New York Giants , Carolina Panthers and Chicago Bears in the National Football League (NFL) and was also used as a return specialist .

youth

Hixon, the son of a German mother and an Afro-American father, grew up in Rhineland-Palatinate . In his youth he not only played football, but also soccer, handball, roller hockey and went alpine skiing. When he was twelve years old, his family moved to Columbus , Ohio .

college

After high school , he played college football at the University of Akron . Initially in the position of free safety , he was then retrained to become a wide receiver. In this position he was committed in the 4th round 130th place in the 2006 NFL Draft by the Denver Broncos .

NFL

Hixon missed the entire 2006 season with a foot injury, and in the first game of the 2007 season ran so unlucky into Kevin Everett of the Buffalo Bills on kick- return that Everett broke his neck and has been a nursing case ever since. After disappointing performances, he was removed from the roster by the Broncos, but immediately signed by the New York Giants . Hixon played twelve games there (his first from the start), made his first touchdown and was part of the team that won Super Bowl XLII 17:14 against the favored New England Patriots . Hixon posted two kick returns for 39 yards of space in that game . The 2008 season was also positive for Hixon: he played 16 games, seven of them from the start as a wide receiver, and caught 43 passes for 596 yards of space and made his first two touchdowns on offense . In the 2009 season he was used again more as a return specialist, making it only 15 captured passes (187 yards). 2010 was a disappointment for Hixon as he missed the entire season after a cruciate ligament rupture. In 2011, shortly after his comeback, he suffered another cruciate ligament rupture, and in his absence the Giants won the Super Bowl XLVI : the Patriots were defeated again (21:17). In 2012, Hixon was the third wide receiver behind Victor Cruz and Hakeem Nick's and played a decent season with 567 yards of space and two touchdowns, but the Giants missed the play-offs . In 2013 he still played for the Carolina Panthers , in which he caught seven passes for 55 yards of space, and moved to the Chicago Bears in 2014 . There he suffered a third cruciate ligament tear, which is why he retired before the start of the new season.

family

Hixon is the son of Birgit and Marvin Hixon, a sergeant in the US Army . Hixon had both German and US citizenship until he was 18 years old , when he gave up German. Hixon speaks fluent German, which is why he was able to greet the German Markus Kuhn, who was signed up by the Giants in 2012, in his mother tongue.
