Markus Kuhn (born May 5, 1986 in Mannheim ) is a former German American football player in the position of defensive tackle . He played four years for the New York Giants in the National Football League (NFL).

American football

GFL

Kuhn played in the German Football League (GFL) for the Weinheim Longhorns both as a linebacker and in the defensive line . There he was instantly voted best newcomer ( Rookie of the Year ) and was appointed to the GFL All-Star Team four times.

college

In 2007 Kuhn went to the United States . There he played college football on the team at North Carolina State University , where he earned a degree in business administration .

NFL

In the 2012 NFL Draft , Kuhn was selected by the New York Giants in the seventh round as the 239th player, and on August 31, 2012 it was announced that he had made the jump into the 53-man squad for the Giants' regular season . On September 5, 2012, he made his debut against the Dallas Cowboys and posted a tackle . On the 6th matchday he was against the Cleveland Browns for the first time in the starting lineup. In the game against the Cincinnati Bengals , Kuhn tore his cruciate ligament , which meant the end of the season for him. On matchday 10 of the 2013 season, Kuhn was back in the Giants' squad for the first time. In the game against the San Diego Chargers , Kuhn took on a squib kick and gained 13 yards of space.

On December 7, 2014, Kuhn scored his first touchdown in the NFL in the game against the Tennessee Titans when he picked up a football dropped by the Titans offense and carried it 26 yards back into their end zone . This was the first touchdown of a German in the NFL, and also the first defensive touchdown of the Giants in the 2014 season. On December 28, Markus Kuhn was able to book the first sack of his career in the 26:34 defeat of his Giants against the Philadelphia Eagles .

After the 2015 season, he moved to the New England Patriots , where he did not make the leap into the final squad and was released before the start of the 2016 season.

Kuhn announced the end of his career on January 27, 2017.
