The Weinheim Longhorns are a football team from Weinheim in Baden-Württemberg and are based in TSG Weinheim .

history

The Weinheim Longhorns were founded in 1990 as a department of the gymnastics and sports community 1862 Weinheim eV. They started regular gaming in 1991. After being promoted to the Oberliga Baden-Württemberg, they played there from 1997 to 2000. In 2000 they were promoted to the Middle Regional League.

In the 2004 season, the athletic promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga South was achieved, in which the Weinheim Longhorns then took third place.

In the 2006 season , the Longhorns were league champions before the Wiesbaden Phantoms tied on points due to the direct comparison . They won the relegation games against the bottom of the table in the GFL- Süd, the Munich Cowboys , with 20: 0 and 27:14 and were promoted to the first Bundesliga, the German Football League (GFL).

In the first year in the GFL-Süd the Weinheim Longhorns took 4th place and thus qualified for the play-offs. Here they met away in the quarter-finals on September 15, 2007 on the northern champions Braunschweig Lions and retired after a 26:55 defeat from the race for the German championship.

Also in the second and third year in the GFL-Süd they finished 4th, so they moved into the play-offs again and lost both times again in the quarter-finals on September 6, 2008 and September 6, 2009 respectively 21:47 and 13:30 against the northern champions Kiel Baltic Hurricanes (2008) and Berlin Adler (2009).

In 2010, the Weinheim Longhorns rose after twelve defeats in the league after another defeat in the relegation without a win in the 2nd Bundesliga. The downward trend continued in the following years, so that in 2011 they were relegated from the 2nd Bundesliga and in 2012 from the Regionalliga Mitte. In 2013 and 2014, further sporting relegations could be avoided, relegation in the Oberliga Baden-Württemberg was achieved in each case. In the 2015 season, nine wins were achieved with three defeats, which meant the championship in the Oberliga Baden-Württemberg and was associated with promotion to the Regionalliga Südwest.

Teams

In addition to the men's team, the Weinheim Longhorns also have an A and B youth team and a junior flag team (U15).

The Junior Flag Team (U15) became Baden-Württemberg and German champions in 5-on-5 indoor flag football in 2011 and remained unbeaten in both championships. In the further course of the season, the team also won the Baden-Württemberg championship title in 9-on-9 and then became German runner-up. The year 2011 is therefore the most successful for the U15 flag football team in its history. In 2012, the Junior Flag Team (U15) successfully defended the Baden-Württemberg championship title in 5-on-5 indoor flag football . The German championships in 5-on-5 were on 28./29. April 2012 in Weinheim, the Longhorns reached the final again and became German runner-up. At the German championships in 9-on-9 in 2012, 4th place was achieved.
