NICE 2

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

NICE 2 is the official sequel to the computer racing game Have a NICE day! by Synetic from 1998 .

Changes compared to part 1

Compared to NICE, NICE 2 offers a much larger selection of vehicles, for example monster trucks and semi- trailers can also be selected. The vehicles and routes are much more detailed, but generally appear a bit lifeless. The type of game has also been greatly changed, so that the second part can be compared more with games like the Need-for-Speed series, while the predecessor relied more on stunts (e.g. loops, ramps).

Game flow

As with its predecessor, NICE 2 focuses on the career mode. In addition, there are individual races with various possible variations against computer opponents or in multiplayer mode as well as the well-known time trial .

Again the player starts his career at the bottom and has little money in the account. The (possible) success from the first part is taken up and mentioned by the new mascot "Eddie" (according to his own stress a "double zero ... er ... a double zero agent", original sound). The same continues Hellcat's methods of letting go of sarcastic comments (example: "The moped driver's license is one floor up!"). Eddie is set to music by Ronald Nitschke .

In the career mode, the calendar is important, where you can plan how you want to improve. There are three types of championships, one with new sports cars, one with classic cars and the last with small cars. There are also competitions where you can only earn money in individual races. There you drive Formula 1 cars, trucks, RC cars or deathmatches, depending on the variant. Especially in the Formula 1 races you can get a lot of money, but the level of difficulty is higher here than in other classes. The money is then used to buy better cars in order to do better in the championship. However, there are several races scheduled for every possible race date, and you have to decide where you want to compete. You can't buy the cars for the individual races, so you rent them for the races.

After an official update , the game also included the option to run it under the "NICE 2 Lite" mode. This modification of the game made it possible to quickly put together a single or multiplayer race with all available tracks and vehicles in rather sparse menus.

vehicles

Synetic did not receive a license for the vehicles included in the game, with the exception of the duck (Citroën 2CV), all vehicles had to be redesigned and given imaginary names (for example, the VW Beetle became the Kugelblitz GTI ). However, it is clear to many of the model after which they were designed. In an old trailer on the NICE 1 CD and in the demo versions, however, the original vehicles could still be seen with their real names. The arrangement of the available vehicles by class is also new. In addition to current sports cars, there is, for example, the Bonsai Class , which includes historic small cars ( Trabant , Citroën 2CV etc.). The game also includes historic sports cars ( Jaguar E-Type ), monster trucks, go-karts , trucks and even Formula 1 cars .

Again there is a selection of weapons and some tuning options. However, the weapons can only be used in a few types of racing (for example deathmatch and foxhunt ) and are only available for one of the different vehicle classes.

Route structure

The routes are no longer "historically founded" (see Part 1 of the series); rather, the focus was on details. A new feature are height profiles, so that the route can now also go up and down; instead the ramps and loops have been omitted.

The routes are based on places around the globe, named Egypt , Arizona , Australia , Germany , Hawaii , Corsica and Austria . Three tracks are available for each country, and the Formula 1 racing tracks of Melbourne , Hockenheim and Spa-Francorchamps were also simulated. There are a total of 24 routes, each route being mirrored and / or reversed; so you can drive each route in 4 different ways.

extension

With the Tune-Up add-on , Synetic delivered six more routes in the spring of 1999. There was also a new vehicle class and various minor changes and innovations. The NICE 2 Lite update was also included in this add-on.

continuation

The game has no direct successor. Nevertheless, Mercedes-Benz Truck Racing , World Racing and World Racing 2 have a similar structure to NICE 2 in parts of the game concept and especially in terms of the engine .
