Christian James "Chris" Hopkins (born February 26, 1985 in Chicago , Illinois ) is a retired American football player on the tight end position . He played for the New York Giants in the National Football League (NFL) and played college football at the University of Toledo . He won a Super Bowl ring as a member of the Giants after defeating the New England Patriots at Super Bowl XLVI .

Career

Hopkins attended the University of Toledo from 2003 to 2008 , where he played college football for the Toledo Rockets . In his first year he was not eligible to play for academic reasons. In 2004 he was eligible to play and was used in all 13 games, primarily as a blocker. He only caught three passes in the entire season. In 2005 he was the second best receiver of the team with 31 passports caught and was chosen in 2nd-team All- MAC . In 2006 he caught 54 passes for seven touchdowns. The 54 pass catches set a season record for tight ends in the Rockets, beating the previous record by ten passes.

On September 9, 2009, the New York Sentinels from the United Football League (UFL) signed Hopkins. He caught six passes for 67 yards and one touchdown. In 2010 he played in the UFL for the Omaha Nighthawks after being selected as one of 20 players in the Expansion Draft . He caught 12 passes for 90 yards.

On July 30, 2011, the New York Giants signed Hopkins. He was released on September 3, 2011. He was signed up the following day for the Giants Practice Squad , where he spent the entire season. With these he won the Super Bowl XLVI and received a Super Bowl ring. On February 7, 2012, the Giants gave him a new contract. He was released on August 27, 2012.
