Cortez Kennedy (* 23. August 1968 in Osceola , Arkansas ; † 23. May 2017 in Orlando , Florida ) was an American American football poker players on the position of the defensive tackles . He played college football with the Miami Hurricanes , the University of Miami team . His entire professional career from 1990 to 2000 he spent with the Seattle Seahawks in the National Football League (NFL).

Jersey number

Kennedy wore the number 96 for ten of his eleven seasons. After his close friend Jerome Brown was killed in a car accident in 1992, he wore his former number 99 in his honor in the 1992 season.

Honors

In 1992, Kennedy was named NFL Defensive Player of the Year . He was a member of the National Football League's 1990s All-Decade Team . During his career, he played in eight Pro Bowls and was elected to the All Pro Team six times by the American press. In 2012, Kennedy was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame .

After his death, the Seattle Seahawks honored him by wearing his jersey number 96 on their helmets during the 2017 season .
