Pete Gross

Peter R. "Pete" Gross (born December 28, 1936 in San Francisco , California , † December 2, 1992 in Mercer Island , Washington ) was an American sports commentator .

Life

His career began as a large DJ before in Stockton started the basketball - and football games of the University of the Pacific to comment. In 1973 he moved to Seattle to work as the sports director for KIRO , where he initially commented on the Seattle SuperSonics games . After founding the Seattle Seahawks in 1976, Gross was KIRO Newsradio 710 's live commentator for the Seahawks' games for 17 years . He commented on all but six games. He was best known for his catchphrase "Touchdown, Seahawks". In 1988 he was diagnosed with kidney cancer, which was removed, but was diagnosed with liver cancer 18 months later . On November 30, 1992, he was inducted into the Seattle Seahawks Ring of Honor before succumbing to cancer two days later . He left behind his wife and their three daughters.
