Lajos Wenzel

Lajos Wenzel (* 1979 ) is the artistic director, author and director .

Life

Wenzel grew up in Lohmar near Cologne . After high school and community service, he completed a photography training, which he successfully completed in 2001. Wenzel then studied at the state-recognized drama school "Theaterwerkstadt Berlin Charlottenburg". In 2004 he made his debut at the National Theater Weimar .

Engagements then took him to the Berliner Ensemble , the Schlosstheater Celle , and the Badische Landesbühne , the Junge Staatstheater des Landes Berlin , the Franconian Theater , the stages of the City of Cologne , the Euro-Studio Landgraf , as well as various independent theater groups in Berlin and among others Cologne.

From 2007 to 2012 Wenzel worked for the Chamber Opera in Cologne as senior director. There he staged the musical My Fair Lady , the operas La Traviata and Der Freischütz , the opera gala Heiterer Musenkuss , the children's play Das kleine Phantom , the operetta Die Fledermaus . As a game director, he led the rehearsals of La Boheme , Don Giovanni , Im Weisse Rössl and The Merry Widow . His production Little Magic Flute after Mozart was nominated for the Cologne Children's and Youth Theater Prize in 2009.

From 2009 to 2011 he directed the children's opera festival at the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden , where, among other things, he staged his own version of the Little Magic Flute with over 250 participants (children, young people, professional singers and musicians). In 2010 and 2011 he was artistic director of the “Monschau Klassik” festival. On the open-air stage, which can hold up to 1700 spectators, he staged with the Chamber Opera Cologne a. a. the operas Freischütz , La Traviata , and Die Fledermaus .

From 2012 to 2017 Wenzel was deputy. Director of the Young Theater in Bonn , Germany's most popular children's and youth theater, where he staged a. a. the musicals Der kleine Drache Kokosnuss , Sams im Glück , Die Chroniken von Narnia , Pünktchen and Anton (nominated for the German Musical Prize) and the modern dramas Tschick and Supergute Tage (Monica Bleibtreu Audience Prize of the Deutsche Privattheatertage Hamburg). In Contra-Kreis Theater he staged terror of Ferdinand von Schirach , The Messiah , Amadeus , The kidney and the Mousetrap .

Wenzel is the author, director and production manager of the annual Divertissementchen of the Cologne men's choir at the Cologne Opera .

From the 2019/20 season, Lajos Wenzel will be the artistic director of the Rhineland-Palatinate state theater in the Neuwied Palace Theater.

Wenzel lives with his family in Lohmar- Wahlscheid .
