The Contra-Kreis-Theater is the oldest private theater in Bonn . It was opened on May 20, 1950 with the play Hamlet , had to give way to the new town hall at its former location in 1966 and has since been located next to the main university building.

Are played comedies , musicals , but also current plays by young writers.

The theater does not owe its name to the circular stage, but rather the name goes back to a circle of actors and patrons who in 1950 had a program “contra city theater” in mind. It has 258 seats and has made a national name for itself through numerous premieres and premieres. TV broadcasts contributed to the good reputation of the theater. The theater is directed by Katinka Hoffmann and Horst Johanning , the longstanding vice-president of the German Stage Association and chairman of the private theater group.
