Private theater days

The Privattheatertage is a German theater festival. They were initiated in 2012 by Axel Schneider in order to demonstrate, according to Schneider, "the high level of performance of the private theater scene in Germany". Since then they have been held in Hamburg every June . The event provides the setting for the Monica Bleibtreu Prize, dedicated to the actress Monica Bleibtreu . It is awarded in three categories and awarded in the Hamburger Kammerspiele . The event is supported with EUR 500,000 from federal funds.

In 2013, around a quarter of around 280 private houses applied for participation with their own stage play. Multiple applications are also possible. A jury travels through Germany to appraise all of the productions advertised. It selects the best 12 productions, the representatives of the productions are invited to Hamburg. At a gala at the end of the private theater days, the winners of the individual categories are awarded the Monica Bleibtreu Prize.
