The Göttingen Young Theater is a small theater with a permanent ensemble in Göttingen .

history

In 1957 the Young Theater Göttingen was founded out of the tangente by Hans-Gunther Klein as a small room theater and played Urfaust as its first premiere on November 4, 1957 with 44 spectators in front of a sold out house . In 1960 the theater moved to Geismarlandstrasse 19, which is now the home of the alternative cinema Lumière . From 1976 to summer 2019, the theater used the rooms of the Otfried-Müller-Haus, built by master builder Rohns in 1836, at Hospitalstrasse 6, directly on the Göttingen weekly market. Due to the necessary renovation of the building, the theater moved to the former Voigtschule at Bürgerstraße 15 in autumn 2019 .

Evelyn Hamann and Bruno Ganz started their careers here. The French singer Barbara gave a guest appearance at the Junge Theater in 1964 and sang her famous Göttingen chanson for the first time . Luc Bondy staged The Fool and the Nun by Stanisław Ignacy Witkiewicz at the beginning of his career in 1971 at the age of 22 .
