Maßbach Castle Theater

The Theater Schloss Maßbach - Unterfränkische Landesbühne is a private theater in Maßbach ( Lower Franconia ) that is run as a GmbH .

Anne Maar , the granddaughter of the founding couple , has been the director since 2003 (January 2008). The theater is located in Maßbach Castle with three permanent venues, the Intime Theater (87 seats), the open-air stage (326 seats) and the TiP - Theater im Pferdestall (the youth theater) with 60 seats. It regularly plays at around 25 guest venues from Fürth to Aschaffenburg , from Schweinfurt to Pfronten , i.e. also in places beyond the borders of Lower Franconia . Over 300 performances are played in front of around 65,000 spectators each year. There are 11 new productions a year, each played ensuite for 6 weeks. The house, known until the 2015/16 season as the Franconian Theater Schloss Maßbach, is the longest-running state-subsidized private guest theater in Germany and fulfills the functions of a state stage .

history

  • 1946 Lena Hutter and Oskar Ballhaus founded the “Coburg Cultural Circle” as a forerunner of the “Franconian Theater”
  • 1948 The theater moves to Wetzhausen Castle through the mediation of a Kommerzienrat Kaiser after the ensemble has performed in Schweinfurt
  • 1955 Relocation of the theater to Stöckach Castle ( Hofheim district in Lower Franconia ) after the water supply and the structural condition of Wetzhausen Castle deteriorated and renovation was beyond financial possibilities
  • 1960 move to Maßbach Castle
  • 1961 Construction of the open-air theater
  • 1972 Death of the theater founder Oskar Ballhaus, continuation by his ex-wife Lena Hutter and her second husband Herbert Heinz
  • 1977 Foundation of the "Friends of the Franconian Theater Schloss Maßbach"
  • 2000 Granddaughter Anne Maar joins the management of the private theater
  • 2002 Death of the director and theater manager Herbert Heinz
  • 2003 Death of co-founder Lena Hutter, Anne Maar takes over sole theater management
